- In The Infinite Question, Christopher Bollas puts forward a psychoanalytic theory that emphasizes the human urge to question, based on detailed studies of real clinical practices. Drawing on the fact that one is influenced by different forms of this drive from the first years of one's childhood until the end of one's life, it shows how Freud's free association method provides answers to both the analyst and the analyst, and in turn constantly triggers other questions.At the heart of the Infinite Question are transcripts of real analytical sessions accompanied by parallel interpretations that emphasize the basic aspects of the free association method in practice. These castings allow for more detailed discussion of cases and contextualize them within a broader theoretical framework, based on Freud's theory of sequence logic.
